Help Moffat Community Kitchen Finish the Year and Build Its Future
United Way of the Yampa Valley serves as the kitchen’s fiscal sponsor, applying for grants, receiving donations, and providing financial oversight on its behalf. This partnership has helped sustain meal services while the kitchen establishes itself as an independent nonprofit.
Thanks to generous foundations, local donors, businesses, and community fundraising efforts, Moffat Community Kitchen has raised $131,000 ($63,000 at UWYV and approximately $68,000 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church) toward its 2026-27 $200,000 goal to cover operations from April 2026 through March 2027. Together, we hosted an Italian dinner in May and the Empty Bowl fundraiser last week, with support from all the foundations that helped. Special thanks to the Artisan group that made all of the lovely bowls!
We gratefully recognize Rocky Mountain Health Foundation, El Pomar Foundation, The Colorado Trust, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA), and Yampa Valley Community Foundation for their generous support. Together with individual donors, business sponsors, volunteers, and community partners, these funders have helped make the kitchen’s continued service possible.
The kitchen has also reached an exciting milestone: Moffat Community Kitchen is now an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and its new board of directors recently held its first meeting. We thank these volunteer leaders for stepping forward to guide the organization, strengthen fundraising, and plan for its future. The future includes a new home. In addition to its operating needs, the kitchen must identify a new location and raise funds for the space, equipment, and startup costs needed to keep serving the community. A forthcoming capital campaign will support this next chapter.
We are gearing up for a successful giving season to raise the remaining $69,000 to meet this year’s goal and keep meals available for 600 neighbors who depend on the kitchen, or the Moffat Community Kitchen will close in May 2027.
